Why the "white girl" joined "the Black struggle."
Last week I wrote about a certain transformation of mine--one of racial transcendence and of forming bonds of solidarity with African-African Americans. I told you how I overcame my fears about personally interacting with Black people and how I was able to build strong relationships with people I would have otherwise avoided, simply because they were “different” from myself.
Overcoming hate at first sight
Before most people meet me, they assume that I am Black. Take one look at my resume, academic major, class schedule, the walls of my room, or even my Facebook page interests, and if not accompanied by a picture or the real thing, people are often taken for surprise.

Conspiracy Theory or Intentional Neglect?: Race, Class, Political Association, History, and Hurricane Katrina
In his book, Come Hell or High Water, Michael
Eric Dyson recounts how hundreds of thousands of people were left behind in the
Gulf Coast region to experience the after
math of Hurricane Katrina. Those left behind to suffer the destruction,
disease, and death were predominately the black poor. These people had no way
out of the city before the storm hit, and received inadequate relief after the
destruction was done. It is no secret that the people who were mainly affected

Solidarity in Opposition to the War at Michigan State
On the 5th anniversay of the Iraq War, 12 student groups marched in solidarity to show their opposition to the unjust, illegal war. It was a beautiful sight to see-- students of all different backgrounds, races, genders, sexual orientations, and even ideologies working side by side to block traffic and march together in the East Lansing community promoting a message of peace and unity. At first, the local newspaper, The State News, denied to cover our march. After significant pressure from student leaders they agreed to let us submit a letter. This is what was published:

Mugabe "intends to stay in power until death." Bad news for Zimbabwe?
Robert Mugabe, President of Zimbabwe, "intends to stay
in power until death." Honestly this is not the best news I've heard all
day. Nothing makes my blood boil more than a "democratically" elected
leader who has abused Marxist principles and black nationalism, and in turn robbed his people of their infrastructure, property, education, and livelihood.
Where did Mugabe go wrong? How has it gotten to this point?
Is in entirely Mugabe’s fault?
