Non_Profit Going Global/Networks
I thought I should share one of the things I encountered while I was in Queens visiting a person who I now I have come to know is my relative---her last name is Mtonga and we traced ourselves to the same great-great-great-great grandfather.
She is a very successful accountant who has been trying to find ways to actually help with Zambia and she set up a small non-profit organization but was unable to reach out to people who had similar interests; and as a result she felt lonely and isolated. Financially, she was certainly in a good position but she had no long-term structural initiatives to make sure that her project continues. We sat down and discussed how she can branch-out and how she can financially sustain her work.
I guess what I'm trying to find out is how much do we work on a global network; where it can be easier to tap into each other's resources to actually execute our various work. I personally know that it is tedious, but I don't think there is a sense of a global network of non-profit organizations. In business you can find them and can pretty much tap into your contacts for anything from lunch, job, and educational money; a guy I went to school with at Ithaca College when I was in high school just called me and has an offer from his father to help out with their business. I mean we can have this in our progressive work! But it requires people knowing people and throwing that out to other people in the same field or for that matter a field totally unrelated.
I told the woman to visit Idealist.org and hopefully she was able to; but the fact that there was somebody out there doing the same work that most of us are doing but yet feeling autonomous was scary because resources are scarce and it is rather imperative that networks offset what financially is burdensome.
Any help on creating this network, especially for places that are very remote would greatly be appreciated.

global networking
George, check out Group Directory under MyYP4 (menu at upper left.) It looks like you can get help for your relative there. Again, good luck!
More resources
I agree with Carol's comment. The International Group on MyYP4 is a good one. We have a few fellows focusing on international work through their Blueprints for Social Justice. Check them out here
Specifically check out Alex Hill's Blueprint, Rachel Berkowitz's Blueprint and Nicole Iaquinto's Blueprint.
By the way...AMAZING story about tracing your family tree!!
