Today's a special day in California and the USA. One month after the California State Supreme Court struck down a ban on gay marriage, today at 5:01 PM county clerks will begin issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples.

This increases the American population to whom same sex marriage is available from the 2% of Massachusetts residents to 14%. The news folks like CNN and Washington Post are all profiling soon to be married Phyllis Lyon and Del Martin, a couple for 55 years (or as I prefer, over 2 1/2 Dan Kleins) and two old-school gay rights activists. This isn't the first time they've been married though--they were one of thousands of couples whose marriage was declared unlawful in 2004. Now conservative groups are trying to do it again. Don't let them.
