Obama=Democratic Party; You=Progressive Movement

Many, if not most, in the progressive community are voting for change this year- we saw it in the primaries and the polls suggest we'll see it at all levels of government in November. What is also clear is that the movement has a candidate in Barack Obama, or so he claims.

It is both prudent and wise for youth movement leaders to be optimistic about change, cautious about the possibility of progress, and realistic about how much progressive change Obama and other candidates are actually in favor of, regardless of their ability to realize those changes.

As millions coalesce around one (or a few) leaders this year, it is more important than ever that the progressive movement assert its identity, clarify its goals and support young people who we need to sustain and further this change and maintain our hope for a better future. The progressive movement is not the Democratic party, you, the young progressive leaders on this blog are. As an organization dedicated to cultivating leaders and building a long-term, progressive movement, we're more interested in your ideas for our country than any current candidate's (unless you are a candidate).

I put this question out a few weeks ago, and I'm going to ask it again: What can YP4 do for YOU to support your ability to effect change beyond the election?
