Ahoj from Praha!
I recieved a nomination not too many hours ago and I decided to check out the site, perhaps join, read about the fellowships program and write a blog entry.
So a little about who I am...
I am currently in Prague, Czech Republic with the Global Institute for Leadership and Civic Developement (I'll plug that here: http://www.globalleaders.info/). The purpose of the program is to develop leadership skills and understand what it truly it means to be a global citizen (not to mention we also get to experience the gorgeous city of Prague!) There's about 40 students and we are from all over the world. I've only been here a week and it's an experiene unlike any other.
This brings me to my true introduction of who i am and where my interests lie. I call myself a global citizen. I believe that our recognition of belonging to a larger group called "humanity" is pertinent in making progress within many social justice issues. It's important to support not just progress in your neighborhood, but in the neighborhoods of others- whether it be down the street or across the world.
The YP4 site and its programs seem to be building a community where we can not only attempt to correct the injustices, but to support each other our endeavors. After a week in this leadership and civic deveopement program I've learned that whether in the United States or the Czech Republic, it's difficult for one person alone to achieve much. It truly takes people (emphasis on the plural) to accomplish the greatest things and together perhaps we can progress this world of ours in the right direction.
