Zambia's President
Recent news has been speculating about the health of the Zambian presidenct Levy Mwanawasa (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/07...).
Mr. Mwanawasa occupies a very unique position in that he will be the first president of Zambia who, if he had to die, would die in office. The interesting thing is that this would test the fabric of the government of zambia in terms of their transition from Levy to a new government. Not only will this be integral to the way the Zambian government will be run; but it will also be crucial to the concept of precedent because whatever happens to Zambia, a stable country , might be emulated by other countries. It is imperative that these countries establish a long lasting upholding of their respective constitutions; in the zambian case having the country follow the constitution when it comes to changing of the guards!
