Public School Boycott?

I read this short article tonight from The Washington Post:

This is an interesting tactic to take: boycotting underfunded public schools in order to get the state to put in more money into them.

While i agree that public education doesn't get enough funding, I wonder if boycotting schools when the academic year is starting is such a good idea. How will students learn if there is a boycott occurring? At the same time, this might the kind of move that will prompt the state to start funding  rural and inner-city schools on the same level as it gives for suburban schools.
