Think Progress has a great article on how military leaders are beginning to oppose Don't Ask, Don't Tell.

For quite some time, U.S. troops have supported repealing the military’s “Don’t Ask Don’t Tell” (DADT) policy. A December 2006 poll of servicemembers who had served in Iraq or Afghanistan found 73 percent of those polled were “comfortable with lesbians and gays.” A 2004 poll found that a majority of junior enlisted servicemembers believed gays and lesbians should be allowed to serve openly in the military, up from 16 percent in 1992.

Hey Louisana....the 1940s called, they want segregation back.

Yesterday, a fellow fellow passed this on to me.  I couldn't believe what I was reading...

Black students being threatened for sitting under the "white" tree?

Black students being told by the district attorney that he could "end [their] lives with the stroke of a pen"?

Black students being unfairly accused and convicted of murder by all-white juries, while their public "defenders" literally did nothing?

It's all too true.  Click below the fold for the text of the email I received.  Visit colorofchange.org to express your outrage to Louisana's governor and the racist district attorney, and to pass the story along to everyone you know.

Nebraska Segregating Education

This past weekend I attended the National Hip Hop Political Convention in Chicago, Illinois, during the convention I went to an educational session.  At the session, a group from Omaha, Nebraska made the announcement that their school district had become a segregated entity.  My immediate thought "Are we in 2006? Segregated schools; she must be joking."  But she wasn't; the city had decided it was more beneficial to have whites students in one school district and the same for the Latinos and Blacks.

The young woman and gentlemen went on to explain how they [community, activists, parents etc] lobbied the legislatures, held sit-ins, in addition to other efforts to stop the bill from passing.  However, the governor signed off on the bill (LB1024) and it passed with a vote of 31-16 within the Legislature.

Our [US] education system has become confused and broken down.  Not only is it teaching our youth that it is okay for "certain" students to have resources and be well prepared for post education, but now we're saying.  Separation is the answer to the many inadequate learning environments, lack of resources, and the status of today's educational system.

Has AMERICA LOST THEIR MINDS???  Or should I say has OMAHA, NEBRASKA GONE BERSERK???
