Description:
On Friday, July 25th from 11AM-2PM, the Student Association for Voter Empowerment (SAVE) will host a press forum entitled "Asserting the Youth Voice," featuring,
*Thomas Friedman, national best-selling author of The World Is Flat and New York Times columnist;
*Judy Woodruff, senior correspondent for The News Hour with Jim Lehrer;
*Joe Scarborough, U.S. Congressman and MSNBC Anchor of Morning Joe;
*Eleanor Clift, contributing editor of Newsweek and a regular panelist on The McLaughlin Group;
*Mike McCurry, former White House press secretary to President Bill Clinton.
We will engage in a discussion about the representation of young people in the media.
The central question the panelist will be asked to answer is: what can we as young voters do to make our voices heard, affirmed, and recognized in the journalistic community? Audience members will also have the opportunity to ask issue-focused questions to further the discussion of youth involvement in the political process.
Through this event, we hope to counter conventional wisdom that "young people don't vote" and to gain insight from national press leaders about how to substantiate young voices as a greater media presence this election cycle.
The event will be held at the AIA building, located at 1735 New York Ave., NW in Washington, DC. For directions, go to: http://www.aia.org/about_directions . Please reply to this email or contact me at (301) 332-4567 with further questions and RSVPs.
***We must receive RSVPs by Thursday, July 17th in order to ensure that there will be space available. Seats are filling up quickly, so please let us know if you are interested ASAP!
To RSVP, please confirm on facebook and/or email info@savevoting.org.
Thanks. We hope to see you on July 25th!
