The gentrification of the Mission District brought a "gang list" that affected young people in a 60-block radius, limiting their freedom of movement and association. Vicente Garcia used his 2007 Young People For fellowship to organize the community to stop the gang list.

About the author:
Michael Connery spent his early political years involved in the Dean Campaign and growth of the netroots. In 2004, he also co-founded Music for America, and served as its Communications Director and Web Editor. Currently Michael is a participant in the Center for Independent Media New Journalism Program. Through his fellowship with the Center, he writes full-time about progressive youth politics at his blog, Future Majority. In addition, he is also a weekend front-page writer on the popular political blog MyDD.com, and an occasional contributer to TechPresident.com and the Huffingon Post's "Off the Bus" blog.
