College Republicans for Lieberman

As reported by Markos Moulitsas of Daily Kos and Sam Seder of Air America's The Majority Report, an email sent out by the College Republicans at Princeton:

Subject: Unconventional Primary Campaign Opportunity (LIEBERMAN)

Republicans,

I hope everyone is enjoying their summer. In June, I informed you all of a campaign opportunity for State Senator Tom Kean race for U.S. Senate in NJ. Continuing the tradition of letting you about summer campaign opportunities here is a much more unconventional option:

Incumbent Senator Joe Lieberman (Democratic Primary)

Lieberman is facing a tough primary fight versus far-left anti war activist Ned Lamont.

August 4-9th Primary Campaigning:

Elissa Harwood '09 (NOT A CLUB MEMBER) has organized a series of buses departing on Friday August 4 from Washington DC (6:30 Foggy Bottom Metro) and NYC, destination: Hartford, CT

People interested in campaigning for Lieberman in the Democratic Primary will have lodging accommodations paid for (by his campaign), as well as food and transportation.

Buses would bring you back on August 9th.

...interesting

Ummmmm... yeah...

I'm not sure which is the issue here- is it that College Republicans prefer to see a moderate or maybe conservative democrat win as suppose to a far left democrat or is it that Lieberman mostly takes on Republican views??

I don't know... but this sure is, for a better word, interesting.

Good thing the Republicans like him...

...because members of Lieberman's own party appear to be growing increasingly disenchanted with the senator, whose stauch support for President Bush's war doesn't exactly make him a beacon of progressive values. Lieberman's opponent in the CT Democratic primary, Ned Lamont, is rapidly gaining popularity and has taken a significant lead in the polls, the New York Times reported this afternoon.

Millionaire businessman Ned Lamont opened a double-digit lead over veteran Sen. Joe Lieberman less than a week before Connecticut's Democratic primary, raising the possibility that the three-term senator may have to run as an independent in November, a new poll released Thursday shows.

Lamont, a political novice, had support from 54 percent of likely Democratic voters in the Quinnipiac University poll, while Lieberman had support from 41 percent of voters.

Throughout his primary campaign, Lieberman has attacked Lamont for being too rich - a "Greenwhich millionaire" who is out of touch with the people. However, this strategy has been ineffective and all that Lieberman has managed to prove is how is out of touch he is with his own base.

A Wolf in Sheep's Clothing

I've been saying this since 2002. The fact that he's actually now planning to EMPLOY avowed footsoldiers of the Republican Party makes the makeover complete.
