Fighting Voter Intimidation
I caught this item on Huffington Post that I thought might be of interest. It's about a lawsuit being brough in the federal courts in New Mexico by the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (also known as ACORN). It contains pretty graphic descriptions of an investigator for the Republican Party visiting individuals wrongfully accused of voting illegally in the June primary, leaving them shaken, and, in one case, in tears. As one of the ACORN workers is quoted as saying:
"These are all minority voters. Many of them are young, and one is a new citizen," said ACORN leader Dana Gallegos. "ACORN has worked hard to get these types of new voters involved in the democratic process. We will not tolerate attempts by the Republican Party to suppress the Hispanic vote in New Mexico."
Proof yet again of the importance of the courts in protecting our rights and liberties. And congrats to ACORN for pursuing this issue!
