Blog the vote! (Yes, you!)
First off, call for help if you run into trouble today:
- Call 866-OUR-VOTE.
- If you experience discrimination on the basis of your gender identity or expression, call the Transgender Legal Defense & Education Fund’s hotline at 646.862.9396. Lawyers will be on call from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. EST.
Next, document your experience, whether things go smoothly or get hectic:
- Post on the YP4 Blog — create a MyYP4 account first if you don’t already have one — tagging your entry 2008 Election. You can upload pictures here, on YP4's Facebook page, or to Flickr (tag 'em YP4).
- Use Twitter Vote Report and TwitterOurVote to keep everyone up to date about what’s going on where you are.
- Help Video the Vote document election problems as they occur. They’ll distribute footage to the mainstream media and online to make sure the full story of Election Day gets told.
If you still don't know where to vote, govote.org will set you up.
More resources:
- The Brennan Center for Justice developed a comprehensive resource for student voting rights by state. You can even embed their widget to share this info through your online networks.
- Baratunde Thurston, who you may remember as the comedian and host for Laughing Liberally at the National Summit this year, launched a Voter Suppression Wiki. Report and mobilize against suppression tactics through user-generated action centers, strategy pages, and incident trackers.
- Election Protection Wiki is a nonpartisan, nonprofit collaboration of citizens, activists and researchers that also provides a comprehensive set of resources and opportunities for you to be involved in protecting the vote.
