Earthjustice is a nonprofit environmental law firm providing free legal representation to organizations and communities. Earthjustice provides smart, effective courtroom advocacy that turns the tide in favor of public health and the environment. Earthjustice seeks an individual interested in fostering our mission by learning about fundraising within a large environmental nonprofit organization. The Development Intern will work in the Downtown Oakland headquarters office with various Development Department staff. Assignments will include, but not be limited to, data analysis and support; drafting and proofreading fundraising materials; assisting with events and mailings, and prospect research.
Qualifications
Applicants must have excellent organizational, communication, and writing skills, as well as the ability to learn quickly, work both independently and collaboratively, and be resourceful. A working knowledge of online research and MS Word/Excel is required. Experience with databases is desirable, as is familiarity with fundraising and philanthropy. An interest in environmental causes is highly desirable.
Requirements
The internship will run for 2.5 months or 11-12 weeks (depending on weekly hours worked), beginning April 2009. Earthjustice is looking for an intern who can work a minimum of 12 hours a week in order to ensure continuity in project work. The exact time and days are flexible, although some project work planned in advance on specific dates may be necessary.
Compensation
This internship pays a weekly stipend and may be eligible for academic credit.
Earthjustice is located in an historic building ½ block from public transportation (19th Street BART station).
