The gentrification of the Mission District brought a "gang list" that affected young people in a 60-block radius, limiting their freedom of movement and association. Vicente Garcia used his 2007 Young People For fellowship to organize the community to stop the gang list.
Internship Program
The internship program focuses on building knowledge and professional skills for fellows pursuing careers creating change in the progressive movement. Careers in the movement range from working at nonprofit organizations to starting a socially responsible business to influencing ideas and thoughts through journalism.
Designed especially for leaders still in school or just starting out their careers, the program allows participants to balance their academic and personal interests with the unique opportunities offered through the program.
