Internship Program

paidinternships-top.jpgYoung leaders who have successfully completed the first year of their fellowship program are invited to apply for our dynamic four-month summer professional development program, which is designed to help fellows obtain dream internships and maximize their on-the-job impact.

The internship program focuses on building knowledge and professional skills for fellows pursuing careers creating change in the progressive movement. Careers in the movement range from working at nonprofit organizations to starting a socially responsible business to influencing ideas and thoughts through journalism. Designed especially for leaders still in school or just starting out their careers, the program allows participants to balance their academic and personal interests with the unique opportunities offered through the program.

The internship program includes:

  • A kick-off retreat at Take Back America: Gather during the Take Back America conference in Washington, D.C., March 16–19 for an introduction to the program and networking opportunities with movement leaders. Read participants' reflections.
  • Internship funding: Apply for a 10-week $2,300 stipend for an otherwise unpaid internship of your choice during the summer or fall of 2008.
  • Professional development coaching: Eight YP4 specialist-led professional development sessions on topics such as professional etiquette, managing your boss, avoiding burnout and networking on the job.
  • Mentorship: Every participant will have the opportunity to be matched with a movement leader from their area of interest. Mentors and participants will be matched according to common interests and will be given a stipend for monthly meetings.
  • One-on-one coaching: Meet four times with a career and life coach to explore your personal and professional goals with a focus on getting prepared for a career in the progressive movement.

The application period for 2008 has passed. Meet our 30 participants.
