The gentrification of the Mission District brought a "gang list" that affected young people in a 60-block radius, limiting their freedom of movement and association. Vicente Garcia used his 2007 Young People For fellowship to organize the community to stop the gang list.

Angela is the founding publicist for Songhai News: The Black Collegiate Voice of the Greater HoustonArea — a black student newspaper on the University of Houston's main campus — and a volunteer for the Boys and Girls Club. With Songhai News, she is responsible for getting the word out about the newspa- per through promotions, press releases, fliers, etc. Her other campus involvement includes being an activist and building relationships with other students, organizations and the community to help them become aware of issues that concern them. She hopes that Songhai News will leave its mark on campus as the Black Press and the voice that represents the unspoken-for people, minorities.
