The gentrification of the Mission District brought a "gang list" that affected young people in a 60-block radius, limiting their freedom of movement and association. Vicente Garcia used his 2007 Young People For fellowship to organize the community to stop the gang list.

Amy is majoring in human services, a service learning program that focuses on nonprofit management, with a minor in sociology. She is the advocacy co-chair of Allied in Pride, a board member of the Jewish Student Association and a community service director of DC Today–DC Tomorrow. She is also an active member of the Jewish Progressive Political Association, Progressive Student Union and Alpha Phi Omega. Amy is dedicated to being involved in the LGBTQ rights movement, ensuring that transgender issues are part of the discussion and that an anti-oppression framework is used to look at everyone who is at the table. She enjoys participating in grassroots organizing and direct action in D.C.
