The gentrification of the Mission District brought a "gang list" that affected young people in a 60-block radius, limiting their freedom of movement and association. Vicente Garcia used his 2007 Young People For fellowship to organize the community to stop the gang list.

Brook studies chemistry and sustainability at the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities. She is the web developer for WeCAN, a social networking site for environmental and energy activists. She is currently volunteering for the Women's Student Activist Collective, and she also works with the Green Team at the University of St. Thomas. She plans to start an environmental awareness program on her campus and organize a river clean-up.
