The gentrification of the Mission District brought a "gang list" that affected young people in a 60-block radius, limiting their freedom of movement and association. Vicente Garcia used his 2007 Young People For fellowship to organize the community to stop the gang list.

Beth is the president of the John Glenn Civic Leadership Council, a student organization that works to promote civic engagement among college students. She also co-founded a nonpartisan voter registration and education organization called OSU Votes. Through her involvement in various campus groups and internships, Beth has worked to raise environmental awareness and foster an attitude of environmental responsibility in her community.
