The gentrification of the Mission District brought a "gang list" that affected young people in a 60-block radius, limiting their freedom of movement and association. Vicente Garcia used his 2007 Young People For fellowship to organize the community to stop the gang list.

Betsy is an area organizer for Project Hot Seat, a national Greenpeace campaign to stop global warming. In Marquette, Project Hot Seat works with a number of different organizations and political leaders encouraging Congress to champion climate change solutions. Betsy has been organizing on campus and in her community since 2006 and is looking forward to expanding that network to include the whole of Michigan's Upper Peninsula.
