The gentrification of the Mission District brought a "gang list" that affected young people in a 60-block radius, limiting their freedom of movement and association. Vicente Garcia used his 2007 Young People For fellowship to organize the community to stop the gang list.

Colette is an advocate of civil rights and environmental conservation. A full-time student, she also works at the Florida Aquarium and is a tutor on her campus. Colette prides herself on being a poet, an activist and a humanitarian. Colette hopes her peers will not fight against their elders but will instead learn from them and evolve from their example. She believes her generation should not seek a great coup d'état, but a steady evolution of change, a progression toward human equality.
