The gentrification of the Mission District brought a "gang list" that affected young people in a 60-block radius, limiting their freedom of movement and association. Vicente Garcia used his 2007 Young People For fellowship to organize the community to stop the gang list.

Chelsia is the President of Students for a Better Society (SBS), a progressive student organization at Southern Methodist University. With SBS she helps organize interesting and exciting events to raise awareness around different progressive issues. She is also currently an intern with the Dallas Mavericks, a third-degree black belt in tae kwon do, and a senior-level competitive figure skater.
