The gentrification of the Mission District brought a "gang list" that affected young people in a 60-block radius, limiting their freedom of movement and association. Vicente Garcia used his 2007 Young People For fellowship to organize the community to stop the gang list.

Daniel is the external community chair for the University of Southern California's Asian Pacific American Student Assembly, the appointed council representative for USC's Asian American and Pacific Islander Advocacy Council, and involved with the Community Health Involvement Project. He is passionate about sustainability and global warming, access to health resources, and immigration and hopes to collaborate with the school administration to promote community initiatives that support faculty and students to work on health access issues with community leaders. He believes that the diversity, willingness to explore and idealism of today's youth provides a strong opportunity to upgrade and change the very construct of democracy.
