The gentrification of the Mission District brought a "gang list" that affected young people in a 60-block radius, limiting their freedom of movement and association. Vicente Garcia used his 2007 Young People For fellowship to organize the community to stop the gang list.

Glenda is currently a student at Barnard College. She is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. – Rho Chapter and holds a regional position as the sorority's NY Metro State Facilitator. Glenda is also the president of the Black/Barnard Organization of Soul Sisters (BOSS), which was founded at Barnard College and Columbia University in fall 1968. Following her interest in the role of arts in implementing social justice, Glenda also serves as the vice president of the Black Theater Ensemble. She is a Mellon Mayes Fellow and is majoring in English/Africana studies with a minor in education. In her free time, Glenda enjoys visual art, photography and collecting music.
