The gentrification of the Mission District brought a "gang list" that affected young people in a 60-block radius, limiting their freedom of movement and association. Vicente Garcia used his 2007 Young People For fellowship to organize the community to stop the gang list.

Renea is Vice President of the Sigma Epsilon Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. and Vice President of the National Pan-Hellenic Council at UCF. She has worked in Boston in aiding local food banks, shelters, and community organizers that assist in AIDS health and awareness, and has done extensive community service in various areas. She plans to increase campus and community youth engagement in HIV and AIDS history, health, and awareness, as well as increase knowledge and activism needed to fight its current devastation in Florida's communities of poverty, the Caribbean, and Sub-Saharan Africa.
