The gentrification of the Mission District brought a "gang list" that affected young people in a 60-block radius, limiting their freedom of movement and association. Vicente Garcia used his 2007 Young People For fellowship to organize the community to stop the gang list.

Jessica has been directly involved with environmental activism for some time, doing important canvassing work with Clean Water Action and co-founding the 2006 Temple University chapter of the Sierra Student Coalition. She served as the President of the Chi Alpha Epsilon National Honor Society, Omicron Chapter from 2008-2010. Upon completion of her Bachelor's degree in Communication from Temple University, Jessica will move to Providence, RI and begin a graduate program at Roger Williams University for a Master of Public Administration. Her ultimate goal is to be a leader in a nonprofit organization.
