The gentrification of the Mission District brought a "gang list" that affected young people in a 60-block radius, limiting their freedom of movement and association. Vicente Garcia used his 2007 Young People For fellowship to organize the community to stop the gang list.

Jason embraces a unity of religions with a current infatuation with Buddhism, similar to how he embraces an assortment of pies with a particular interest in pecan pie with ice cream. He says, "If you know me too long, you may tire of my love of food, and dessert in particular, or you may join my anticipation of the next dessert." Jason loves community, hip-hop, laughter, poetry, contradictory and deep statements that defy the intellect, dogs, sunshine, music, and the prospect of doing a backflip, among other things. He enjoys most things.
