The gentrification of the Mission District brought a "gang list" that affected young people in a 60-block radius, limiting their freedom of movement and association. Vicente Garcia used his 2007 Young People For fellowship to organize the community to stop the gang list.

Jasmine is an activist in the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and ally (LGBTA) community. Her efforts with the LGBTA community led her to start gay-straight alliances at Rocky River High school in Ohio and at Eastern Michigan University. In addition to her work toward LGBTA awareness and rights, Jasmine has also been an advocate for nonviolence, women's equality, and universal health care. She is also a member of Omega Phi Alpha, a national community service sorority and a American Humanics Non-Profit Scholar.
