The gentrification of the Mission District brought a "gang list" that affected young people in a 60-block radius, limiting their freedom of movement and association. Vicente Garcia used his 2007 Young People For fellowship to organize the community to stop the gang list.

Liz is a client advocate at the Harlem Hospital Family Help Desk, a member of the Barnard-Columbia Public Health Society, and an intern at the Legal Aid Society Manhattan Civil Practice. She hopes to expose more people to the interdisciplinary nature of public health in terms of accessibility, academia, and activism on Columbia's campus and in the New York community at large.
