The gentrification of the Mission District brought a "gang list" that affected young people in a 60-block radius, limiting their freedom of movement and association. Vicente Garcia used his 2007 Young People For fellowship to organize the community to stop the gang list.

Lilly is dedicated to addressing the effects of white patriarchy in our American society by contributing to the cultivation of a diverse and conscious student body at New York University (NYU). She is involved in Latinos Unidos con Honor y Amistad (LUCHA), a social justice Latino organization at NYU, and is getting involved in the establishment of the new student group Community Roots (C-Roots). As the Jewish Life Liaison for Rubin Hall, she plans and facilitates exploration of Judaism in relation to social justice. Her background in the San Francisco Bay Area includes working on immigrants' rights, educational reform, and eradication of family homelessness and homophobia.
