The gentrification of the Mission District brought a "gang list" that affected young people in a 60-block radius, limiting their freedom of movement and association. Vicente Garcia used his 2007 Young People For fellowship to organize the community to stop the gang list.

Miles is the editor in chief and founder of the Northern Michigan University Political Review, an organization that publishes a quarterly journal of progressive research. He wishes to initiate a progressive student roundtable on campus in order to bring together like-minded factions, facilitate cooperation and catalyze a renaissance of campus activism. Miles hopes young people will commit to a sustained effort to promote social justice and good governance, building the current incarnation of progressivism to last and not dissipate as political and social winds change direction.
