The gentrification of the Mission District brought a "gang list" that affected young people in a 60-block radius, limiting their freedom of movement and association. Vicente Garcia used his 2007 Young People For fellowship to organize the community to stop the gang list.

Phillip wants to bring progressive ideologies into our health care system. As a pre-med student at the University of Michigan, he understands that health issues are of paramount importance to all segments of society. Through networking with other young progressive leaders, Phillip hopes to bring new resources and strategies back to the University of Michigan to help him motivate his fellow students to action.
