The gentrification of the Mission District brought a "gang list" that affected young people in a 60-block radius, limiting their freedom of movement and association. Vicente Garcia used his 2007 Young People For fellowship to organize the community to stop the gang list.

Rachel is the director of the Health Partnerships team for the central staff of GlobeMed, a national not-for-profit organization. Recognizing the unique power and perspective of university students, GlobeMed strives to encourage and inspire responsible student involvement in global health. GlobeMed's 13 student-led chapters work directly with partner health organizations, both locally and abroad, to design and implement responsible and sustainable health projects. GlobeMed also recognizes the need to educate students about current health challenges and developing the skills needed to make an impact in the field of global health.
