The gentrification of the Mission District brought a "gang list" that affected young people in a 60-block radius, limiting their freedom of movement and association. Vicente Garcia used his 2007 Young People For fellowship to organize the community to stop the gang list.

Rasika is in her second year of a unique eight-year B.S./M.D. program called MedStart and will matriculate into medical school in fall 2010. As a nutrition major, Rasika hopes to reshape the face of our youth's nutritional health and make a real difference in the community through a multipronged, holistic approach involving early education, budget planning, meal planning, shopping assistance, providing transportation to healthy shopping alternatives, free cooking classes, free exercise classes, safe playgrounds and health checkups.
