The gentrification of the Mission District brought a "gang list" that affected young people in a 60-block radius, limiting their freedom of movement and association. Vicente Garcia used his 2007 Young People For fellowship to organize the community to stop the gang list.

Reem is the Director of the Council on American-Islamic Relations-UIUC, a university branch of the largest Muslim Civil Rights and Advocacy group in the nation, and a resident advisor at Allen Hall. With CAIR-UIUC, she is dedicated to flagging and responding to media bias, building pluralistic coalitions, developing community, and creating interfaith diaologue. Her cross-campus invovlement is united by a commitment towards proactive engagement as a norm rather than as a reactive exception, and she hopes to develop CAIR-UIUC as a continued source of dynamic social action.
