The gentrification of the Mission District brought a "gang list" that affected young people in a 60-block radius, limiting their freedom of movement and association. Vicente Garcia used his 2007 Young People For fellowship to organize the community to stop the gang list.

Sonia was born in Ecuador. She came to the United States with her parents at the age of five. The first child in her family to attend college, Sonia has always been conscious of the struggle and obstacles through which her community, and family have gone. Thus, from her position as treasurer in her high school student government to her membership in the Women's Rights Coalition at Hunter College, she looks forward to improving her community and ameliorating the challenges facing undocumented students in the Unites States. She says, "I know change is possible and it will occur through YP4."
