The gentrification of the Mission District brought a "gang list" that affected young people in a 60-block radius, limiting their freedom of movement and association. Vicente Garcia used his 2007 Young People For fellowship to organize the community to stop the gang list.

Sonia was born in Ecuador and raised in Harlem since the age of 5.She is an activist,artist,writer, music lover,poet. In her spare time she dabbles in photography, painting, jewelry designing and coordinating events. Currently she is attending Hunter College where she is going for a double major in Africana Puerto Rican Latinos Studies, and Women and Gender Studies. As a core member of the New York State Youth Leadership Council she is devoted in developing curriculum and events that support the advancement of immigrant youth and their leadership in their respective communities
She along with Silvia Gonzales started A Foundation For Youth (A.F.F.Y) and launched it summer 2009.
She says, "I know change is possible and it will occur through YP4."
