The gentrification of the Mission District brought a "gang list" that affected young people in a 60-block radius, limiting their freedom of movement and association. Vicente Garcia used his 2007 Young People For fellowship to organize the community to stop the gang list.

Sonia was born in Ecuador and raised in Harlem since the age of 5.Currently she is persuing a double major in Political Science, and Latin American Caribbean Studies with a minor in Africana Studies at Hunter College.
Since 2008 she has been working with NYS-YLC.The NYSYLC is a youth-led network representing high schools, colleges, communities of faith, and community based organizations committed to improving access to higher education and creating equal opportunity for immigrant youth and children of immigrants through leadership development and advocacy.This year her work has been devoted in getting the Dream Act passed.
As a 2008 YP4 fellow, she has been working on her Blueprinty(A.F.F.Y) which will be implemented summer 2009.
Aside from an activist,community organizer,and student, Sonia is an artist whose passion falls on spoken word and painting.
She says, "I know change is possible and it will occur through YP4."
