The gentrification of the Mission District brought a "gang list" that affected young people in a 60-block radius, limiting their freedom of movement and association. Vicente Garcia used his 2007 Young People For fellowship to organize the community to stop the gang list.

Shamecca is a senior at Lincoln University in Pennsylvania. She is currently a freelance writer for Caribbean News in New York City and hopes to become an accomplished novelist, poet and essayist. Shamecca is most concerned with economic, political and social equality for African-Americans and Latinos. As a young black woman, she wants to be a catalyst for change in order to guarantee a better lifestyle for those who follow her.
