The gentrification of the Mission District brought a "gang list" that affected young people in a 60-block radius, limiting their freedom of movement and association. Vicente Garcia used his 2007 Young People For fellowship to organize the community to stop the gang list.

Steph is the Spring Film Festival chair for the Wellesley African Students' Association and a member of the Multi-Faith Living and Learning Community. As assistant and editor to a women's rights legal scholar, she has gained valuable insights into the use of human rights frameworks to establish legislative social change. She hopes to combine her passions for food, intercultural exchange, and human rights in developing an organization that will foster cross-cultural dialogue and further social change.
