The gentrification of the Mission District brought a "gang list" that affected young people in a 60-block radius, limiting their freedom of movement and association. Vicente Garcia used his 2007 Young People For fellowship to organize the community to stop the gang list.

William is the creator and co-founder of the HIV Youth Project, an online site directed toward HIV-positive youth, queer-identified people, women, differently-abled people, communities of color and other marginalized groups and their allies. He has previously worked with the American Civil Liberties Union and San Francisco's Asian & Pacific Islander Wellness Center on immigrants' and LGBT rights, respectively. He was also elected as advocacy co-chair of the National Asian American Student Conference board. William is passionate about queer, violence and mental health issues, especially within communities of color.
