The gentrification of the Mission District brought a "gang list" that affected young people in a 60-block radius, limiting their freedom of movement and association. Vicente Garcia used his 2007 Young People For fellowship to organize the community to stop the gang list.

Zina is a freshman at the New School: Eugene Lang College and plans to focus most of the energy in her body on fixing America's public education situation. She is an intern for the Carmel Hill program and teaches first-graders in Washington Heights how to read so that they can better combat the repression of the New York public school system. She considers herself a feminist and ally to the LGBTQQI community as well as a believer in the power of laughter, comedy and her hometown, Oakland, Calif.
