The gentrification of the Mission District brought a "gang list" that affected young people in a 60-block radius, limiting their freedom of movement and association. Vicente Garcia used his 2007 Young People For fellowship to organize the community to stop the gang list.

Zack is Chair of the Tax Free Textbook Campaign in the University of Texas Student Government and a member of the University Democrats. He is currently leading efforts to make higher education more affordable and accessible in both Austin and DC, he recently helped coordinate a trip to help clean up hurricane ravaged New Orleans, and he united progressive groups across his community to march for fair and just immigration reform. He hopes to unite student leaders and members of the progressive community nationwide in support of equal access to education and realizing the American dream.
